Double Digits!

Caleb had his birthday this week - he is 10!  I can't believe it!  Double digits!  This year we decided to fore-go the huge crazy birthday party and asked him to choose just one friend to go see the Lego movie and go out to dinner.  It took him a long time to decide who to invite; he was not worried so much about who was his "best" friend, but who loved Legos the MOST and would therefore want to see the movie the most.  Very cute.

He ended up taking his buddy Braden.  They thought the movie was the BEST ever and laughed hysterically through it all.  He requested Texas Roadhouse for dinner (what?  what happened to McDonald's?) but we had a coupon and a  great time!  I told the waitress it was his birthday and towards the end of the meal when all the servers started clapping and walking over, he was watching, smiling.  Then...they stopped at our table and a light bulb turned on - once he realized they were singing to HIM, that grin about split his face open.  He was so excited!  He danced and laughed and smiled - our server was cracking up laughing at his reaction.  She's probably never seen anyone so thrilled to get a birthday song. (Please notice the Lego shirt in honor of the Lego movie.  Love this kid.)

That was Saturday, while Kip was off of work.  The kids had school off on Monday for President's Day (Caleb's actual birthday), but Kip had to work, so we decided to go visit him.  We had never seen his jobsite before, it seemed like a good time to do it.  We started the day with donuts (of course), then our cousins came down from Morrison, and they played during the day until afternoon, when we could go to the jobsite and all the workers would be winding down.
We got there and Kip took all the kids on a little tour of the main floor, which was fun.   Caleb and Cayden:

 Then we took all the rest of the kids to McDonald's and Caleb stayed behind to be dad's helper and get some on-the-job training.  By the time he joined us at the restaurant, he was very excited about getting to drive a "toe-hoe" (track hoe) and help dad.  Fun times!

After getting home Monday night he finally got to open his presents from Mom and Dad.  This was my favorite face:

It's the "SOCKS?  For my birthday?" face.  Hahaha!  He also got a new suit, a new coat, and new snow boots. (I did all my shopping on ebay and cragislist, woohoo!)  Not super exciting, but the best one was last, we just gave him $30 to spend as he wants.  That really made him happy.  Especially because he also got money from grandmas and grandpas, as well as some friends.  He is LOADED!  Plus we got a (free) basketball hoop for the driveway, he's been using that, and a new set of Legos (thanks grandma!)

All in all, I think it was a great birthday weekend!

We love having Caleb in our family, he keeps us on our toes.  He makes us laugh all the time.  He is very helpful (usually, haha!) and gives lots of special attention to his baby sister McKinley.  He likes all things Lego,  and Bay Blades, sports, and video games (especially Star Wars and Minecraft).  He is very smart and told the doctor that he was best at math, but his favorite is cursive. (news to me!) He is loving participating in Ameritowne at his Options class and still enjoys practicing his karate and piano.  He is great about doing what needs to be done (like schoolwork and chores) quickly and without complaining so he can have more time to play.
