It's hard to believe that we have been here for almost two weeks. It's one of those situations that feels like we just got here, but at the same time it feels like we've been here forever, if that makes sense. Did we ever live somewhere besides a motel? :)
This week brought all kinds of adventures - we visited that Butterfly Pavilion, the Children's Museum, and the the Wildlife Experience, which had an awesome Megalodon exhibit and a not-awesome dinosaur movie. We found a nice park to play in, became Costco members again (oh, happy day!), swam a lot in the motel pool, and kept reading The Indian in the Cupboard. This weekend, we headed back to Gypsum for the annual Gypsum Daze party, where I did not run the 5k, but Kip and Caleb did, along with our friends Ryan and Parker Allen (Parker is Caleb's buddy). I wasn't sure how Caleb would do, since we haven't practiced running or been in any sports lately. He's a trooper, don't get me wrong, but 3 miles is a long race for your first one, know what I mean? Get this: Caleb ran it in 30:29, beating my best recorded time!! Stud! He did great. We have some fun pictures from the event, but they will have to wait (along with pictures from all of our other adventures) until we have our other computer out to load the pictures onto. Like the picture of Rachel's horrified face at the butterfly pavilion - she did not love them like we thought she would.
After enjoying Gypsum Daze and a visit with our good friends the Allens, we headed back to Denver to see the Rockies play the Milwaukee Brewers. Pretty exciting! McKinley did great at her first professional sporting event, Caleb really got into cheering for the home team, and Ella seemed to enjoy herself too. Rachel was a little wound up and we had a hard time keeping her from bumping into the head and shoulders of the people in front of us, but she did love screaming as loud as she could for the players. We ended up leaving just after the 7th inning stretch, since the game had started late for rain delay and we were all exhausted, but we had a fun time and got to listen to the end of the game on the radio as we drove home. Rockies lost, too bad. It was actually quite an exciting game with hits and homers and two players getting ejected after a bad call by the umpire...I did whisper to Caleb that the words people we shouting after that bad call were not words that we needed to repeat, ever. :)
We are still waiting for word on or final working place, so we'll let you know when we do find out. For those that are close, we are planning to bless McKinley the first Sunday in September in grand junction, and welcome anyone who wants to come. She smiles a lot and is growing so fast. She is a good sport about going everywhere as long as I stop to feed her every few hours. She's even starting to sleep longer stretches at night (4-5 hours) so that's awesome, of course.
It has also been fun to catch up with friends that live in this area, the Jensens and the Smiths, both of whom we met and got to know in gypsum and now live outside of Denver. It's great to see familiar friendly faces in a new place, especially for the kids.
