I know it's so cliche to say that time flies, but...time flies. One minute you're young and hip, and the next you're battling heartburn, going to bed at 9:00 on Friday night, and you have a TWELVE year old child!
Twelve is a big birthday in our family, and Caleb wanted to celebrate it in a big way. Once he knew for sure that we couldn't take them all to a theme park like Elitch Gardens (February birthdays, doh!), he agreed that a movie-marathon was the perfect way to embark on his second dozen years.
(Side note - we had a very sobering realization that he is two-thirds of the way DONE with living in our home. 6 more and he's likely out of here. Oh. my. gosh.)
Luckily we had the holiday - President's Day - to take advantage of his friends being out of school long enough to watch 3 Star Wars movies and eat and play in between, so that's exactly what we did. In between it was warm enough to be outside, so they went out and played "light saber wars" on the trampoline with pool noodles.
I kept them plied with food all day long; after the last movie and some pizza, we finally got around to the cake. Rachel and McKinley are peeking at the left, then Caleb and friends Carter, Skyler, and Logan.
That was all 2 days before his actual birthday, so there was more fun to be had!! I was so excited to pick up a buddy for him at the party store. And while it did not scare him as much as I hoped it would upon waking up, we did spend the day moving him around to scare whoever walking into various rooms next. So funny!
He enjoyed his first mutual activity with youth ages 12-18 playing volleyball with everyone; went on his first Deacon's quorum campout including snowshoeing, and then had both grandmas and grandpas come out to visit for his priesthood ordination. It was a big week! The next photos are from the zoo, which Caleb did not come to because he was still on his campout, but it was a beautiful February day with Grandma and Grandpa Thygerson! The girls got bunny ears from some booth that was advertising a new Disney movie, so they were thrilled.

Caleb has really stepped up and seems to enjoy the extra responsibility that comes with his new duties and opportunities. It is fun and crazy to see him growing up! He is helpful around the house and good about getting his school work done. He loves all things Star Wars, still enjoys Legos, is preparing for a spring soccer season, and still playing the piano very well. He keeps up well with his homework from Orchard Options - now that he is a middle school student, some classes assign him things to do at home between Mondays. He completed his Faith in God program and still enjoys Boy Scouts. He washes his own laundry and like caring for and playing with his dog. We love you, Caleb! Happy Birthday!
