We didn't waste any time kicking off our summer break! The day that Rachel finished school, we took off for Ragged Mountain and the Thygerson reunion. We remembered NOT to bring Gordo this time, and the weather was gorgeous, so win-win! Sandbox fun with cousin Lizzie:

We made it home, unpacked, re-packed, and immediately left for Oklahoma to spend some time with my parents. One day they had to work so we visited Philbrook Museum. Just the right size - not too big, not too small. The kids loved it!
There were giant goldfish in the pond.
One day we went to Bartlesville to some kind of summer festival. :) We had funnel cake and deep fried oreos, it was so bad but sooo good.
And we spent some time at Grandma Valerie's - Grandpa built a fire so we could make s'mores, although we had a hard time keep the chocolate from melting in the wrapper since it was pretty warm outside!

We enjoyed our trip very much! It was hard to come back to regular life a responsibilities. But we did - I had about 36 hours after we got home to prepare for youth conference in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was fun, too! It is beautiful up there - I even got to watch this lovely herd of elk run past me. We did service at a campsite clearing tent pads and painting poles, hiked, played, studied - it was great!
And of course, we got in our first big "dad hike" of the year - north of silverthorne, trekking up a 4 wheel drive road to find a trailhead for later. This is the first year that we are having McKinley actually walk and not get carried in the backpack for any portion of the hike. She is not super happy about that (we have been practicing making her walk during dog walks). Kip motivated her with candy all along the way, and she walked almost the whole time - almost 6 miles!! I carried her on my back just for a short while, but I thought it was pretty impressive that she did so well. The other kids were all troopers, too.
At the trailhead (the end of our hike), we found a little shelter and campsite - looks like someone was staying there for a while. The kids thought it was pretty cool!
In other random news, we started the library summer reading program:
Bought bowling passes for the summer - $25 for 3 games per day, all summer long!
and Caleb's friend Zach stopped by the neighborhood and the boys all had a nice reunion.
