halloween fiesta!

For our art project last week, which was also a nod to our study of insects in science, and with help from Grandma Mitchell, we made a spider pinata:
It was very fun and I learned a lot about what to do next time I try paper mache. :)  Of course, the most exciting part was that it was stuffed with treats, as any good pinata is, and over the weekend we beat it with a bat until it gave up all the goods.  :)  Our good friends the Allens were here to join in the fun, and since they are practically professional baseball players, the poor spider didn't have a chance.
As you can see, the legs were the first thing to go...and even Rachel was thrilled to hit the spider.  She was so proud of herself! And, when it was all said and done, everyone got lots of treats and the spider got a new home in the trash can.  Thank you for your service, wonderful pinata spider.
