I just needed to talk about a few things that have really spiced up our days...school days, that is. We have been through the winter "slide," I'll call it (cabin fever?)...no sports, no co-op classes, etc. After coming back from an awesome Christmas vacation, we were ready for a shake-up in our class time. (Luckily an extra vacation with Grandma(s) and Grandpa(s) Mitchell helped, too.)
Now, basketball camp has started, swim lessons are in two weeks, dance and co-op started again. Whew. In addition, I've been trying to really have fun with science and social studies, since they are the current favorites. Of course, the "regulars" are still there too (language and math), going along smoothly. Awesome science find:
Coolest board game! It has vinyl re-usable stickers of the internal organs and oversize plastic cards with the body (as pictured on front) and dotted lines for organ placement. You take turns drawing cards and try to the be the first to complete your body. The kids love it. Caleb loves to just put it together by himself, without even playing the game. Take it apart, put it together, take it apart, put it together. Woo hoo!
Then, meet the newest (plastic) member of our family, Odysseus. (named, of course, for the Greek hero of legend. Kids' idea, for real.):
He comes off the stick for hours of entertainment. Rachel even likes to play with him. Nice! So, school is fun again. We made pita bread along with our lessons about ancient Greece, and the kids were very impressed when we popped it open - ooooo, a pocket! They even tried some hummus, but honey was voted the better filling/spread. :)
**As a side note, if anyone has good recommendations for "fun" reading with Caleb and Ella, I'm looking for chapter books. I'm not really a fan of books full of tooting, burping, other bodily functions, kids calling other kids idiot or stupid, etc. Captain Underpants? No thanks. But something we can read at bedtimes that's lighter than our more classical reading for school. We have read some of the Flat Stanley books and those are pretty fun. Indian in the Cupboard trilogy, maybe? Any ideas?**

Have you read any of the Magic Treehouse books yet? G & E have read them all and are now enjoying reading them to the little guys. They are also big fans of Junie B Jones, and the Boxcar Children.
