What's the difference?

Ella's primary teacher at church shared this story with me:

The lesson was on apostles, and a question was asked, "What is the difference between the apostles in Christ's time, and the apostles now?" (The teacher told me that the answer they were looking for was something along the lines of "nothing, they both follow Christ, apostles now are the same as apostles then," etc.)
But Ella raised her hand and said,
"Well, the ones now are better dressed."

Haha!  Where do they come  up with this stuff?  I am fairly confident that we've never had a family night or discussion on the clothes they wore 2,000 years ago.  She must have noticed in paintings and such. Haha!

Setting: Costco
We are grocery shopping.  For some mysterious reason, the universe aligns and I agree to buy the kids drumstick-ice cream cones (which I never do).  Everyone is thrilled.

Rachel:  Thanks!  You are the BEST mom ever right now!
Me:  Hey, thanks!  ...for that qualifier...
Guy standing next to us (laughing): Good luck later on!

Rachel has a great way of complimenting with qualifiers - sort of like the "you are my favorite 5 year old daughter!" trick.

A number of weeks ago, Rachel accidentally got her big toe smashed in the back door.  It turned completely blue right away, so we knew it would eventually fall off.  After some time, it did begin to come loose...a...little...bit...at...a....time.  We were not allowed to touch it or even think about touching it.  At one point,
Rachel asked:  Mom, does the tooth fairy take toenails?
Me:  Nope, I don't think so.  Do you think there is a toenail fairy?
Rachel: (thinking)...no.
Me: Yeah, me neither.

Last Sunday at church, it was really gross looking, barely hanging on by one side.  Lovely.  She moved around like usual getting crayons, shifting positions.  All of the sudden, I noticed it was gone, so I whispered; "Rachel, look at your toenail."  She did, and gasped loudly in surprise.

Rachel: Did you take it?
Me:  No!  But you need to find it, that's kind of yucky.
So she did find it, and had dad keep it in his pocket long enough to show her primary teacher.  Then he was able to talk her into throwing it into the trash rather than keeping it in her treasure box.  Whew!  Good times.
