Local hotspots

The kids have missed have our Clarke Farms pool right around the corner, but the good news is that we have the reservoir right around the corner!
So, on a Saturday night, you can just zip over and jump in for a little while, it doesn't have to be an all day affair.  On this particular night, there were a number of motorboats driving around, and the kids figured out that the boats would create kind of big waves, so they were having a good time waiting for waves to hit.  It was almost like being at the ocean! :)
Another day Kip took us up to explore an area around Murphy Lake, where we experienced...
Hiking with Dad:101
1. Drive to the end of a forest road.  No other humans in sight is preferable.
2. Hike up a mountain until someone cries or the water is gone or both.
(McKinley has now been plied with Teddy Graham crackers and we are going downhill back to car, so...smiles all around)
3. Go off trails and bushwhack through growth that is taller than the little girls.
4. Find the car again and celebrate.
5. Go to some water and play.

In this case, it was Murphy Lake, and the kids had a great time because someone else had left a lashed log raft for playing with.  They scooted all around until it started to get kind of late and we had to go.  Kip and I tried to get on, but we sunk the raft, so we had to get off.  Needed bigger logs, I guess. :)

Lastly, we made use of our gas stove by roasting hot dogs...indoors.  Win!
